A leading ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist serving Long Island and all of New York City, Dr. Lawrence F. Jindra is a graduate of Sewanhaka High School. After earning degrees from Harvard University and the University of Oxford, Dr. Jindra served an internship at Cornell University Medical College and went on to his residency at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he now serves as Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology. He continued with a research fellowship at the Nobel Prize-winning Laboratory of Biophysics of Rockefeller University and a clinical fellowship at the Glaucoma Service of Wills Eye Hospital, consistently one of the highest-ranking eye hospitals in the United States.
Dr. Lawrence F. Jindra joined the staff of the White House as a fellow in the office of Science and Technology Policy during the Bush and Clinton administrations. He is the founder and director emeritus of the Glaucoma Consultation Unit of the SUNY Northport Veterans' Affairs Medical Center and served as Battalion Surgeon with 2nd Battalion/25th Marines, which was mobilized during the Persian Gulf War.
A premier ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist based in Long Island and serving all of New York City, Dr. Lawrence F. Jindra specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and psychophysical detection of visual impairment. He pioneered the development and teaches the techniques of non-perforating trabeculectomy for the surgical correction of glaucoma. The first glaucoma specialist in the metro New York tri-state area to offer its use, Dr. Jindra is a leading expert in the advancement of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) for laser treatment of glaucoma. An ophthalmologist dedicated to discovering the best treatments for his patients, Dr. Jindra has done extensive research and teaching in the contrast sensitivity of the retinal ganglion cells and received a U.S. Patent for an image analysis technique of the retinal nerve fiber layer for the early diagnosis of glaucoma.
In addition to offering patients the latest diagnostic testing for glaucoma – such as digitized, stereoscopic, computerized photographs of the optic nerve head and scanning laser polarimetry analysis of the retinal nerve fiber layer – Dr. Lawrence F. Jindra also performs complex glaucoma Seton implant surgery for patients with advanced glaucoma.
